We used Neil Conwell Pty Ltd in 2005 to replace a seriously run down front porch on our workers cottage. It didn’t have any front stairs and the supports underneath were rotten.

The company was able to start straight away due to another job being put on hold, and as it turned out we were very fortunate to get them 6 weeks out from Christmas! The job took 2 weeks and everything was looked after with a very high standard of professionalism. The company had many years’ experience with Queenslanders and new exactly what style and material should be used for the long term. They did a fantastic job with no fuss.

We used Neil Conwell Pty Ltd to renovate our Queensland cottage, including a 4 metre extension to the house, a 4 metre deck, new roof, restumping, plumbing and electrical. We rang the references and went to see 3 houses the Company had renovated over the course of 5 years, as someone told us you need to establish whether the work holds up over the long term.

The company did an incredible job of a very high standard. Even today, 4 odd years after the renovation, we still have friends (and other tradespeople) comment on how good the house looks and functions. The company was also able to help us keep the original integrity of the house as well as modernise. We made sure we were well organised - we had an itemised list of all inclusions (down to door handles and light switch boards) as well as a detailed plan of the electrical layout. This went a long way in helping the builders so if I can offer any advice, do your research first – do not leave it to the last minute. This will hold up the job and put strain on relationships. Also, ring the builder before you turn up to have a look at the work. The builder will appreciate your courtesy and be a lot more accommodating.

The company’s sub-contractors reflected the same level of professionalism that the builders did. The tile work in the bathrooms and kitchen were fantastic. We did have an issue with the electrician in that he didn’t follow our lighting plan exactly (a couple of lights were put in the wrong spot), but once he realised, he moved them. Our advice is to meet with all the sub-contractors onsite to walk through the job and discuss your requirements.

The cost of the renovation was in the mid range of 5 that we received.
